A terroir of
excellence
Hélène and Benoît work an exceptional estate covering more than 200 kms, from the Coteaux du Sézannais (Montgenost), including the Côte des Blancs (Cramant and Chouilly), the Vallée de la Marne (Cerseuil) and the Côte des Bars (Verpillières-sur-Ource).
The vineyard, of about fifty years of age, is composed of the three representative grape varieties. The Chardonnay, the beloved and reasonable grape variety dominates the Pinot Noir and the Pinot Meunier in the wine composition. Delicate and fragile, its aromatic richness is the central theme of the cuvées
The Sézannais
terroir
Recognised from the 17th century for the quality of its wines, the Sézannais has a subsoil rich in chalk and flint and is mainly planted with Chardonnay, unquestionable signature of rich and round champagnes. The family estate decided to settle in Montgenost, real chalky area of the Coteaux du Sézannais. Thanks to its privileged geographic location and its unique microclimate, this village is among the first ones to start the annual harvest.
A considered
and sustainable
wine-growing
From its beginning, the Champagne Benoît Cocteaux has been working his estate with the greatest respect for the environment. By continuing their quest for excellence, Benoît and Hélène wanted and needed to invest more in their approaches of fauna and flora protection and installed insect hotels, ladybird towers and perches for birds in several plots.
The family estate’s efforts have been awarded by the very coveted HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) and TERRA VITIS certifications. These certifications granted by the French Ministry of Agriculture identify and highlight the estates whose practices allows greater protection of the environment.
An awarded strict
maintenance
This voluntary and personal approach is firstly global. It reveals a strong daily commitment from the couple. The TERRA VITIS and HVE approaches have a single objective: the guarantee of a champagne of a very great quality, that respects the environment and the customer.
